Young, Ivory Park rapper, discusses his music.

IVORY PARK- A young public relations student wants to take rap to the next level through his music. Wynand Monyeseala, known as RapSinger, from Ivory Park Ext 12 said he was the first rapper from Ivory Park to ever debut a song on an American radio station and also the first to collaborate with an American rapper.

His song, Heiya Remix, featuring his friend Whistle, was played in the US on a show called Voiceless Music Radio on FLO Empire Radio. RapSinger said, “I started my rap music in 2006 and recorded a single in 2009 called, Be With You. It has been a challenge to get any airplay on bigger radio stations in South Africa, but I am going to try until someone plays my songs.”

Another song by RapSinger is Keep Grindin’ featuring American rapper, Siano. He explained, “Siano and I never met. We became friends via social media and one day we discussed doing something together. The song was done via the Internet. I e-mailed him a beat to record and he e-mailed back another beat to record and we had a complete song.”

RapSinger said, at first, music was just something he did on the side while focusing on his studies, but now he was considering having both a career in public relations and one as a musician. “I don’t have to sacrifice either because education is very important, I need both to be a success,” he said.

He is currently working on a mixtape called The Return, out in February 2016, which he hopes people will enjoy listening to. Speaking about Ivory Park, he said many people who come from the townships think they cannot be or do anything great. “I want to succeed in everything I do, my background will not define my future,” he enthused.

He added that he had been patient with his music for years. One day he would get the big break he was looking for and when that day came he would be ready to give the local and international music scene a real treat.
