Free Japanese Film Festival

JOBURG - The Japanese Film Festival, now in its 22nd year, will be coming to Joburg North.

Hosted by Cinema Nouveau, the film festival will take place at Rosebank Mall from 16 to 18 October.

The purpose of the film festival being screened each year, is to bring the best of international ‘art house’ cinema to South African audiences.

The festival is co-organised by the Embassy of Japan in South Africa and the Japan Foundation, much like the European Film Festival is organised by the Goethe Institute and various other European organisations in South Africa.

What makes this festival even more appealing to lovers of adverse cinema is that screenings of all the movies in the festival are free to the public.

The Japanese Film Festival is aimed at promoting an understanding of Japanese culture among South Africans.

The titles that will be available to view during the festival are Until the Break of Dawn, Tamako Love Story, The Kirishima Thing, WOOD JOB! and My Little Sweet Pea.

Appealing to the wide range of anime-lovers in the country, the festival even features a full animation, anime-style movie, Tamako Love Story.

There’s something for all Japanese film lovers at the Japanese Film Festival.
