Midrand Reporter met with the artist in Carlswald, where he spoke of his goals and the release of his latest unfinished album titled “Pantsula la Venda” meaning the street dancer from Venda.
The album is a follow up to his previous release, as reported in the story Midrand Kwaito musican making it big on the Midrand Reporter website.
“I am a Venda, therefore, I sing kwaito in my songs. That is what sets my music apart from the rest,” said Mudau. He also wants to take the genre back to its roots, he said. “These days you find that musicians mix kwaito with a fast beat. That is not kwaito, that’s house.”
Mudau dreams of working with his idols at Kalawa Jazzmee, the record label owned by Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng and Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa. “I respect the way Spikiri lays down a track (puts a song together). I would love it if he and my current producer, at Masana Records, were to work together on the current tracks I’ve recorded and help me finish my album by December this year.”The rising star said he has sold a thousand copies of his album without a distributor. “I would love to work with big distributors. I believe that my music has selling power and all I need is their backing to reach my audience.”
Before the release of his album though, as a pre-publicity stunt and a way to get to know his fans, Mudau has promised to host an annual birthday bash (for himself). The first installment will be held in Berea’s (Johannesburg) Wild West on 8 Novermber.
