As the elephants prepare for this year’s tournament, they are eager to defend their title against a strong rival, Olieven Starts FC, in what promises to be a thrilling knockout fixture.

The tournament is organised by the Mologadi Johannes Tuba Foundation, which has joined forces with several esteemed partners including Aquelle ViV, LogicWorld Advertising, Gazebo World, and Kyalami Schools.

Marketing and fundraising officer Johnny Tuba emphasised that the decision to host a second edition stems from their unwavering dedication to enhancing this event each year, with aspirations to elevate its competitiveness and ensure a high level of engagement for both participants and the spectators alike.

“In this year’s edition, we will maintain the format of a top 16 straight knockout tournament that will be played across two fields to maximise excitement and action. The knockout stages are slated for September 28, and we look forward to the top four teams clashing on October 5 for the grand finale,” Tuba explained.

A total of 16 teams have officially confirmed their participation, and this year’s tournament features a particularly notable partnership with the renowned Villarreal CF.

“One exceptional participant will have a unique opportunity to attend the Villarreal soccer camp, and may even be selected for a chance to travel to Spain, which is an exciting prospect,” Tuba added.

The winners of this year’s tournament will be rewarded with a substantial cash prize amounting to R10 000, along with coveted medals and trophies that signify their achievement.

Beyond the main prizes, there will be opportunities for further awards or recognition throughout the event, as the organisers aim to celebrate the spirit of football and fairness. In addition to the competitive element, the tournament is dedicated to engaging with local communities through various outreach programmes.

Tuba also pointed out the logistical challenges encountered during the inaugural tournament, particularly the lack of venue support from government facilities, which resulted in the event being moved outside of Midrand. Fortunately, Kyalami Schools has stepped in to provide a suitable sporting facility, effectively addressing this issue for the upcoming tournament.

The first round of the tournament will commence bright and early at 08:30, with the exciting match-up between Midrand City and Flavour United, followed by Flying Fish facing off against Wifa Super Stars.

In another thrilling clash, Arc-Irene will take on Real Midrand, while Dark Angels will challenge Al Baraka. Additionally, Mannenburg is set to compete against the Mighty Wizards, Stadio Waterfall will go head-to-head with Midrand FC, and Vula Vala will take their chances against 7 Stars.
