JDA’s construction of R28m Ivory Park clinic, Hikhensile Clinic underway

The building of the clinic is not just about healthcare, it is also a fantastic opportunity for job creation and skills development.

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg’s Health Department, has commenced the construction of the brand new Hikhensile Clinic on Lekologa Street in Ivory Park.

The significant development marks a monumental step forward in enhancing community healthcare services in the region.

The old Hikhensile Clinic was demolished to pave the way for a modern, state-of-the-art 2173m² facility, demonstrating the city’s commitment to providing primary healthcare facilities.

The new, R28m, Hikhensile Clinic construction aims to improve health service delivery, create a visibly improved social service, support local economic development, including local SMMEs, encourage further investment and upgrading in the area, and promote improved social cohesion upon completion.

JDA executive manager for project implementation Siyabonga Genu said the construction would be executed in two phases.

“Phase one will include the construction of a single-storey structure featuring six consultation rooms, a counselling room, a vital room, a doctor’s room, and a social worker room, as well as external works, parking, paving, and all necessary electrical and mechanical works,” said Genu.

Upon completion, the clinic will feature a comprehensive array of facilities, including:

  • Entrance hall: A welcoming space that provides easy access to the various sections of the clinic, ensuring smooth patient flow and accommodating a large number of visitors.
  • Reception: A centrally located area where patients can check in, receive information, and be directed to the appropriate services, ensuring an organised and efficient experience.
  • Waiting area: A spacious, 159-seat waiting area designed to accommodate patients and their families as they wait for consultations or treatments, with seating arrangements that promote comfort and privacy.

  • Treatment room: A specialised room for administering various medical treatments and procedures, equipped with the necessary medical equipment and supplies to ensure patient safety and care.
