Summerhill School SA learner Eli Young gets a call-up for the upcoming Bill Stewart Tournament.

Summerhill Nursery, Preparatory and International College are delighted to announce that one of its learners has been selected to join the Gauteng U13 Boys Provincial team, sparking great enthusiasm within the school community.

Eli Young was picked during the recent U13 Boys Discovery Festival at Mark’s Park, which took place from May 15–17.

In collaboration with Discovery Health and the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association, the festival’s goal was to identify talented players for the upcoming Bill Stewart Tournament scheduled for June 22–26.

During the festival, 12 teams under the association, each comprising 17 players, engaged in exciting matches against each other.

The teams – Lions, Cheetahs, Scorpions, Owls, Eagles, Mambas, Rhinos, Hawks, Falcons, Cobras, Leopards, and Buffaloes – were under the supervision of different coaches and managers who selected the standout players from among their peers.

Representing the Rhinos, the Grade 6 learner from Summerhill showcased outstanding skills and attributes — both on and off the ball, as an individual and as part of a team leading to his selection for the provincial team.

Kagan Marais, the head of sports at Summerhill, expressed immense pride in Eli’s achievement, underscoring the school’s anticipation of his future accomplishments at the provincial level.
