The bustling fields of Mark’s Park bore witness to the rise of a new local soccer sensation – Tshedza Mukhuba from Vorna Valley.

This talented young footballer’s journey from the Discovery Festive tournament to getting a call-up for the Gauteng U13 Boys Provincial team is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and unwavering passion for the game.

In a sea of 180 players vying for a spot in the prestigious provincial team, Tshedza’s skill and determination shone brightly, earning him one of the coveted 45 positions.
The selected players will represent Gauteng at the Bill Stewart Tournament on June 22 to 26 in Limpopo.

For this 13-year-old prodigy from Curro Midrand, the call-up to represent his province is not just an achievement, it is a dream come true.

Reflecting on his journey, Tshedza expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, emphasising the importance of perseverance and consistency in his pursuit of excellence. “It is a dream come true because since last season, I was unsuccessful and this year I made it. It is an achievement and a big honour to be chosen out of many talented boys in the tournament,” he said.

Drawing inspiration from football icon Lionel Messi and his brother Tendani, Tshedza aspires to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

His versatility on the field, playing multiple positions with finesse, showcases his potential to become a well-rounded player. Apart from his exploits in the Gauteng Development League with Highlands Park Academy, his selection to the provincial team promises a steep learning curve that will undoubtedly shape his future in soccer.

Beyond the soccer pitch, Tshedza’s ambitions extend to the realm of veterinary science, where his love for animals, particularly dogs, finds expression. Juggling academic responsibilities with his passion for soccer, he exemplifies the art of prioritisation and meticulous planning. “I am learning a lot to become the best player. I am grateful for this opportunity as well. And I prioritise and plan accordingly to make sure that my activities [school and sports] do not clash.”

Dr Vanitha Govindasamy, the head of Curro Midrand, commended Tshedza’s stellar performance both academically and athletically, underscoring his positive impact on the school’s sporting legacy.

Tshedza’s mother Lindiwe said, “We are excited and proud of Tshedza’s achievement and know that this selection will further grow and develop him to greater heights.”

With unwavering support from his loved ones and well-wishers, Tshedza stands poised to make his mark on the upcoming provincial tournament, carrying with him the hopes and cheers of an entire community.
