Sanele Majola instils lifetime’s worth of lessons to The IIE Varsity College Waterfall education students

Students were reminded to remain connected to their roots, to be resilient, and to demonstrate self-awareness among others.

The headmaster of St Stithians Boys’ Preparatory School, Sanele Majola, recently delivered a powerful presentation to more than 100 third and fourth-year Bachelor of Education students at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall.

The event was organised by the campus’ Faculty of Education, and it aimed to provide future teachers with the necessary skills to excel in their profession. Majola’s inspirational presentation did not disappoint as he shared valuable insights and strategies that will shape these future educators’ journeys in education for years to come.

He spoke about how to become the most sought-after 21st-century educator, regardless of socioeconomic status in South Africa.

Students were reminded to remain connected to their roots, to be resilient, to demonstrate self-awareness, and to be intentional in their interactions with learners in the classroom.

Majola emphasised the significant role of educators in shaping the lives of their learners and stressed the importance of understanding that learners learn from their teachers before they learn the subject.

The impact of Majola’s words was certainly immeasurable, with one fourth-year student Tyler Bishop saying that it was a lifetime’s worth of lessons.

“To see that even people who started with very little can fly and achieve bigger things. I learned that what I have gone through does not need to define me negatively but rather define and shape who I am now and who I will be in the future, an excellent teacher,” Bishop explained.

“I will use my past as a means to guide and develop my students and teach them that they can achieve anything no matter what they face.”

The event was attended by other esteemed guests which included Alwyn van Wyk an executive member of St Stithians Preparatory School, and Gushwell Brooks, head of Mandela Day, public outreach The Nelson Mandela Foundation, and a parent at St Stithians Preparatory School.

By demonstrating their commitment to and support of the development of quality education they contributed to the success of the event.
