Blue Hills Annual Netball Tournament is a rousing success

Blue Hills emerged as champions of U14, while Noordwyk dominated in the U15 and U17 categories.

The Blue Hills College Annual Netball Tournament this year was an exciting event with non-stop, action-packed encounters.

The tournament, in its second edition, took place on October 13 with other Midrand schools participating.

These included Space Age Independent School, Atlas Combined School, Noordwyk Secondary, and Educators School.

Three divisions were available to play in, catering for U14, U15, and U17.
The matches were played simultaneously on two courts and were five minutes each half, with the finals lasting 10 minutes per stanza.
The tournament’s host, Thembelihle Mthembu said the significance of this tournament for girls could not be overstated. It provided an opportunity for them to develop teamwork skills, enhance self-confidence and self-esteem, foster a sense of belonging, and compete in a constructive manner that enabled them to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

In the U14 final, Blue Hills beat Educators School. The U15 final saw Noordwyk starting slow against Educators but they came back in the second half to win. Noordwyk did the double when they won the U17 final against Blue Hills.

Mthembu said the tournament had grown this year as they managed to organise sponsorships from Netball South Africa and Makro.

“This year’s edition was successful and better than last year because looking at the objective and how we can improve as compared to last year, I think we did exceptionally well this year.”
