FootGolf SA hosts a successful Silent Footgolf Tournament in Midrand

FootGolf SA conducted the Silent FootGolf tournament in partnership with Disabled Youth SA and with the support of the National Commission of UNESCO on International Sign Language Day.

The inaugural Silent Footgolf Tournament held at the Urban Life Church promised to be the start of a great partnership between FootGolf South Africa and the Deaf Youth of South Africa.

On September 23, International Sign Language Day, FootGolf SA hosted the Silent FootGolf tournament in partnership with Disabled Youth SA and with the support of the National Commission of Unesco.

Feladelfia Secondary LSEN School sent learners to participate in the competition in honour of the day and the 12th official language – sign language – with the theme A World Where Deaf People Can Sign Anywhere.

Kefilwe Mphake takes second position.

Earlier this year, the National Assembly approved the Report of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development on the Constitution Eighteenth Amendment Bill [B1-2023] to amend Section 6 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996.

The amendment was to include South African Sign Language as an official language to promote the rights of persons who are deaf and hard of hearing.

In the tournament, Penuel Masuku claimed the first position in the learners’ category with a score of 14 points.

In the official tournament’s men’s category, Damian Rogers took first place after a tight tiebreaker at a par score of 60 against Tshepo Kekana, which placed Kekana in second place, and Ndumiso Nkoana in third.

The women’s category was pretty tight with Mpho Makua topping the list, Kefilwe Mphake in second and Busi Silaluke coming through in third.
Silaluke is one of FootGolf SA’s senior women’s players who has been working hard to up her game for over a year now, and her recent position proves that she has indeed honed her skills.
