Rabie Ridge Boxing Club girl boxer is undefeated in three fights

Ridge boxer Kate Ugat was unable to find a match after joining the club at the end of 2021 and getting graded a year late due to a lack of female boxers in the amateur division.

Young Rabie Ridge boxer Kate Ugat (12) has been knocking out opponents with blows and jabs in the ring as she maintains her undefeated record.

The sports star from Rabie Ridge Boxing Club has three victories, one show match, and no defeats or draws, but getting these fights has been difficult.

Kate was unable to find a match after joining the club at the end of 2021 and getting graded a year late due to a lack of female boxers in the amateur division.

She only had one fight last year, which was an exhibition fight that was not recorded, but her patience and desire to compete were soon rewarded as the young boxer went on to win three matches this year.

Kate’s coach, Leroy Mosito, discussed how her commitment has resulted in her being a well-rounded fighter at such a young age.

“It is easy to begin and end anything positive, but it is easier to begin something negative and hard to quit it. Each has long-term ramifications or regrets. So, I’m happy for Kate, and my responsibility now is to keep that streak going,” said Mosito.

Kate won her first tournament in the Gauteng Development Tournament. Her second victory occurred in a South Africa vs Lesotho competition, which was held at Bert Collins’ Springs, and her third victory came at the Johannesburg Woman’s Commission boxing event, which was held at Premium Fitness Centre.

“If she continues to win like this, she will soon be promoted to the Ekurhuleni Championship,” Mosito added, “and if she performs well there, she will move on to the Gauteng Championship and, finally, the SA Championship.”

Furthermore, amateur boxing has been extremely active this year with competitions and training, and the club is preparing two new fighters, Sphiwe Ngidi (22) and Thabiso Mohlabeng (17), to be graded.

“Even though we have more than two new boxers who are just not ready yet. Those two fighters are ready, and I am so pleased with their dedication. I sincerely hope that more individuals become interested in boxing so that the club and community may expand.”

The club also intends to change its name to Rabie Ridge Sports Club to accommodate various types of sports, since they recognise that not everyone can participate in combat sports but enjoy other sports.
