Waterfall City’s annual Half Marathon creates impact, while testing runners’ endurance

This winter, Waterfall City is thrilled to host the annual Waterfall City Half Marathon set to take place on August 6.

The marathon is fast becoming a tradition on the Gauteng athletics calendar, attracting participants from all walks of life, who come together to embrace a healthy lifestyle and uplift communities around the area.

Andiswa Gqamana, spokesperson of the club said as an athletics club that is deeply rooted in the Waterfall City community, they firmly believe in the power of sports to bring people together and promote a healthier, stronger community.

She said participants can choose between a 5km fun run, a 10km race, and the main event – a 21.1km half marathon. And by participating in the half marathon, runners have the opportunity to connect with the vibrant Waterfall City community.

“Our commitment to inclusivity extends to the Waterfall City Athletics Club itself. By developing members from disadvantaged communities, we aim to nurture talent, unlock potential, and create a supportive environment for everyone to thrive”, said Gqamana.

She said in addition to creating a premier running experience, participants are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items or personal care items to charitable organisations.

“The funds raised through the event will also be utilised to support the development programme. The Waterfall City Half Marathon is more than just a race; it is a platform for giving back and empowering individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The club advocates for fitness and wellness through its inclusive programme which develops members from disadvantaged communities. The event promises to be an unforgettable experience for runners and spectators alike,” added Gqamana.

Avid runners will have the opportunity to challenge themselves and test their endurance through various race options available to accommodate different fitness levels.

The event is organised and hosted by the Waterfall City Athletics Club in collaboration with Attacq, Waterfall Management Company, and Mall of Africa.
