Midrand United FC skipper wants to be remembered as someone who brought smiles to soccer lovers

I would like to be remembered as someone whose skills and flair always brought smiles to lovers of the game, says the skipper.

Midrand United FC skipper, William ‘Spencer’ Phohu, scaled the heights of the football world, rubbing shoulders with the cream of the Multichoice Diski Challenge.

Even today, Spencer remains calm at all times whether on or off the field, a result of his patience and passion for soccer.

The 23-year-old Midrand-based midfielder fell in love with the beautiful game after being inspired by former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise at a tender age.

With his box-to-box capabilities, he has been instrumental in Midrand United’s enhanced speed of decision-making. He has scored seven goals and contributed 12 assists in the senior premier league for Midrand United.

Spencer had to take a break from sports at some point in his life to concentrate on his studies, but later in life, he returned and cultivated high-performance standards which earned him the armband.

To be a complete soccer player, Spencer believes players should be disciplined and listen to their coaches and teammates. “Communication between coaches and players plays an essential role in the success of the team on and off the field. It helps us understand each other better. I learned a lot from my coach and teammates and this helped me develop my skills,” said the skipper.

Additionally, Spencer is responsible for coaching Midrand United’s development side. His duties include overseeing Midrand United’s academy, which prepares young players for the future.

Spencer concluded that besides being a great soccer player, he would like to be remembered as someone whose skills and flair always brought smiles to lovers of the game.
