Hawks FC player hopes for a great season

“My goal is to make the teams’ first lineup and have a great individual season, as well as win the league with the team,” says the midfielder.

There is no doubt that soccer brings people together – teammates, families, communities, friends, fans and rivals.

And local soccer player Kamogelo Makgosing believes local players must put in the work and remain grounded, as they are the ones creating this entertainment that draws people together.

“Whether it’s showing up to practice on time, or performing drills at home to improve accuracy, football instils responsibility in the player by teaching them that progress takes effort and sacrifice,” he explained.

The 16-year-old playmaker is the youngest member of the Hawks FC squad in the 2022/23 Safa Joburg regional league, and despite not getting much action in the Hawks’ last six league games, he still believes each match teaches him something – whether on the field or the sidelines.

“I know am still young but my goal is to make the team’s first line-up and have a great individual season, as well as win the league with the team.”

As a midfielder, Kamogelo plays an integral role in linking the team’s defenders and forwards and believes that the modern central midfielder stands out due to the distance they cover and the many explosive sprints they make.

To keep fit he trains on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and his love for the beautiful game goes as far as him attending matches even when he is sick.

“In many communities, opportunities to safely exercise and recreate in a fun environment are sorely lacking. Soccer also provides us with the ability to get or stay physically active and fit for life because we can also play it in streets and bring excitement to ourselves and everyone that is watching.”
