First Healthy Lifestyle Aerobics session for 2023 a success

This was a good way to start the year and instructors hopes that local will be more consistent in attending upcoming events.

The first 2023 Healthy Lifestyle Aerobics event saw community members start the new year with a bang as they kicked the festive blues on January 21.

The event was sponsored by the City of Johannesburg and the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation and had a total of 205 locals in attendance at Busy Corner.

Region A sports and recreation assistant director Mandla Mahlangu said the event brings social cohesion, togetherness, and belonging, and it is a destress mechanism.

“It has aspects of physical, psychological as well as emotional well-being, starting the year with a bang, on a positive high note, as well as fulfilling some new year’s resolutions,” said Mahlangu.

Instructor Thoko Shabalala says the event was a success.

Mahlangu thanked local aerobics clubs for mobilising their members and bringing their instructors for free.

“Thanks to Busy Corner Shisanyama for the space, water, clean toilets, and electricity,” he added.

Mahlangu said although there were jovial moods and positive spirits, they still need a quality outdoor sound system and a stage to be more effective.

One of the many instructors in attendance, Thoko Shabalala said this was certainly a good way to start the year and hopes that people will be more consistent in attending more events.

“This was the highest number we have ever had since we started attending these events. Even though it was too hot, we managed to push the event until the end with success as instructors. Everything went very well,” Shabalala concluded.
