Hawks 2–0 Diepsloot Arsenal: Local team moves up the log

With this win Hawks leapfrog Opopo FC to sit on top of the Safa Joburg men’s regional league yellow stream.

Single goals from both Morongwa Masekela and Tebatso Moafi gave Hawks a 2–0 win over Diepsloot Arsenal on November 26 at Rabie Ridge Stadium.

Hawks started brightly and almost had an early lead when Masekela’s strike was palmed over the crossbar by the agile Diepsloot keeper Takeci Dease.

Diepsloot worked tirelessly without the ball and Lovers Chauke thought he had opened the scoring in 20 minutes, but his effort went wide.

Masekela was in predator mode and ‘the general of the midfield’ fired a strong strike that found the net, but Diepsloot was saved by the offside flag.

Hawks saw the majority of possession and dictated play and Thabo Makhumo forced Dease to make another save.

Masekela grasped his chance to get Hawks up from a corner kick firing with his right foot after bursting into the box.

Having been on the back foot for the majority of the match, Diepsloot nearly equalised on the brink of half-time when Mduduzi Manyama failed to convert a one-on-one against Hawks keeper Tinyiko Balozi.

Any hope of late fightback from Diepsloot was wiped away when Moafi smashed home from close range with 15 minutes left to play.
Diepsloot showed more intent to pull one back but could not match Hawks’ defence led by the lively Nyiko Mhlongo.

Hawks have 10 points having drawn only one match and won three. The log leaders will visit Brixton Atletico at Cecil Payne Stadium on November 30 before they lock horns in a derby with Super Rovers on December 3 at Eduvos Campus.
