Midrand Spoilers appoints new skipper

The 22-year-old was given the captain responsible at the beginning of this year and he believes Spoilers can achieve a lot this season with him as the skipper.

Certainly, passion is the driving force behind success and happiness that allows one to live better.

Thabiso ‘Star’ Thipe, the ever-hardworking Midrand Spoilers defender is now the team’s captain following the departure of last year’s skipper Lukhanyo ‘Ntsimbi’ Mapeyi to Indlovu FC. “Whatever that is meant for you will always come to you. My father once told me that if I could put more effort and passion into soccer then I could be one of the best,” said Thipe.

His passion for soccer began in 2012 when he was playing for the local team Zamalek FC. Although he loved soccer, he still believed that while talent was innate, education was acquired. “A talented individual still needs to be educated to perform optimally in society, and education can enhance someone’s talent, which in turn can contribute greatly to one’s success.

“The two years I spent at Zamalek were my most productive but then I became more focused on my schoolwork and quit soccer, and when I completed high school in 2017, I decided to get back to playing soccer because I am passionate about it and nothing matters when I am on a pitch.”

On his return to the pitch, Thipe joined Liverpool FC before he made his way to Spoilers last year. “I joined Spoilers after my friend Shimani ‘Dombolo’ Kekana who I use to play with at Liverpool called me to join Spoilers as he was playing there. “I took the opportunity and went to train with the team [Spoilers]. Everything started hard because it was a new challenge but the guys were awesome and I ended up feeling comfortable and started enjoying myself.”

The 22-year-old was given the responsibility of captain at the beginning of this year and he believed Spoilers could achieve a lot this season with him as the skipper. “I am honoured to lead the team and I am learning a lot plus the guys are making things even better by assisting me with some of the decision-making. Indeed, hard work does pay as long as you do not give up but keep pushing.”
