Local Curro school performs well in swimming, tennis, eSports and a host of other competitions.

Curro learners recently had the chance to up their adrenaline and enjoy some friendly heart-pumping competition during an action-packed sporting extravaganza as part of the Curro Cup.

The event kicked off with a fantastic inter-school tennis tournament hosted by Curro Sport.

More than 110 tennis players comprised of various Curro primary and high school learners participated in the seven-day event, which was held at the breathtaking Sun City Resort.

Curro Hazeldean was in top form throughout, coming out first in both the primary boys’ and girls’ categories as well as the high school girls’ tournament. Curro Hillcrest was triumphant in the high school boys’ tournament.

Sundowner-based Curro Aurora’s national inter-school Curro Cup 2022 Swimming Gala was also a splashing success.

The high-performance gala was held at Waterstone College in Kibler Park, and more than 170 keen swimmers from 11 Curro primary and high schools plunged into the deep end and competed in one of 48 events during the two days. Curro Woodhill College swimmers were overall winners in the primary school category and Curro Hazeldean’s swimmers for the high school.

Curro Sports brought the event to a close, with more than 150 learners and teachers taking part in the Minecraft Build Battles and Capture the Flag games as part of the Curro Cup Minecraft.

A further 50 learners from 13 Curro schools took part in the Rocket league, and 36 players from nine Curro schools in the Apex league of the Curro Cup Traditional eSports.

Both online platforms were specially designed by Acer for Curro and had Shakey, a distinguished eSports player, South African shoutcaster and Curro Hermanus alumni, on hand to shoutcast some of the games.

“The Curro Cup is a great opportunity for learners from all our schools to come together, compete in a friendly and enjoyable environment and celebrate each other’s sporting successes. I am so impressed at the huge turnout, especially as these events were held during the school holidays. A huge well done and thank you to our staff for giving up their well-deserved break to make this such a resounding success too,” said Curro Holdings CEO, Andries Greyling.
