Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club sent Soweto Eagles Rugby Club home in tears after walloping the visitors 27–5.
The Golden Lions Rugby Union Memorial Cup game was played at Midrand High School, Stingers’ home ground, on October 2.
The Midrand Giants as Stingers are known, led 10–5 at half-time after the visitors had opened the scoring through a try.
Stingers were resolute in defence and scored an unanswered 17 points in the second-half to walk away 27–5 winners.
Thabiso Mokoena of Soweto Eagles said they enjoyed the game although they lacked fitness.
Claude Tshidibi, captain of the Stingers said he was satisfied with the win but in terms of what they had practised strategy wise, they did not pull it off.
“We are definitely getting there. We want to improve on playing our game because towards the end we started playing their game and rushing, which was not
part of our game plan,” Tshidibi concluded.
