According to Janine Lock, Christ Church College sports coordinator, Elmarie lived to play netball, practising or playing seven days a week.

“She was selected to play for Christ Church College’s first team this year. Vusieka has been involved in Junior League Action Sports Indoor Netball, and participated in the indoor netball inter-provincial tournament,” she added.

“She also plays club netball for the Sandton Indoor League. In addition, Vusieka plays Fast-5 Outdoor Netball, and this year she was selected to play for the Johannesburg Netball Association U19 team.”

Delighted with Elmarie’s selection, Alviro Petersen, director of sports and culture at the school said her accomplishment was a testimony to her hard work and self-belief. “I would like to congratulate Vusieka and all the coaches and staff who have played a role in her development. This achievement aligns with our strategic mission to develop the team as well as the individual,” he added.

Elmarie said this drew her closer to her dream to represent South Africa.

“Our school selected us to trial for different teams, so I trialled three times, and in the third round which is the final round, I was able to make it on to the U16 team,” she added.

When asked what advice she could give to up and coming netball enthusiasts, Elmarie said, “You have to put your heart and your mind into it. You have to put 100% in to get 100% out.”
