Get involved with the Midrand Striders

MIDRAND – The Midrand Striders' runners are back on track and are calling on the local community to join in.

The Midrand Striders running club is excited about the easing of lockdown restrictions and invites the community to get involved.

Spokesperson for the club Nomathemba Masuku said, “With the easing of the lockdown regulations to levels 2 and 1, a bit of normalcy in our running community is slowly returning.

“Even though there will not be races as we know them for a while, the virtual races have been keeping everyone motivated and in high spirits.”

The Striders has resumed activities including Sunday clubs runs, Tuesday time trials and Thursday track sessions at Midrand High School. Masuku said, “It is inspiring to see everyone slowly getting back into the swing of things and seeing the greater Midrand community also taking up running as a form of stress relief in these challenging times.”

The club has also created a partnership with Axion Security Company who has assisted with patrols and protection on their Sunday club runs.

Over the past few months there have been increased reports of runners being mugged, and the club welcomes Axion’s assistance during their runs.

The Midrand Striders Running Club invites community members to take part in their activities.

The Sunday club runs are 10km to 24km and start 6.20am; the Tuesday time trials are 4km and 8km runs at 5.30pm while the Thursday track session takes place at 5pm.

Interested residents can contact the club at info@midrandstriders.org for more information.
