Showjumping returns to Blue Hills with The Riders Series

BLUE HILLS – Local showjumping series resumes safely at Ezethu.

Showjumpers shook the dust off their spurs and had a blast after a long break at The Riders Series.

Blue Hills was the place to be when Ezethu hosted the fourth leg of the series on 9 and 10 August after an interval since the last leg was held in March.

“We are happy with how the show went and it was nice to see how everyone who participated made an effort to comply with safety regulations,” Ezethu’s show director, Esla du Plessis told the Midrand Reporter.

“It was a good opportunity for horses and riders to get back to jumping. We saw that many people brought their younger horses and it was nice for them to get the experience of show jumping and socialise with other horses.”

She said a highlight for her was seeing riders catching up with each other under safe conditions, although they did leave immediately after their rounds and all protocols were followed.

“It has been a week since the event and no one has contacted us saying they have tested positive for the virus, so that has also been good,” Du Plessis added.

“We did temperature checks and registration, riders had to sanitise and wear face masks when not riding and we had no catering. We did supply cold and hot drinks on the day, safely, and organised food delivery for officials.”

The next leg of the series will be held in October, with the date still to be confirmed.
