Little Kickers Midrand offers free lessons

WATERFALL – Local soccer club offers free lessons on Zoom to the community.

As Level 3 of the lockdown continues, Little Kickers Midrand has had even more fun online with live and recorded video lessons to help youngsters (and their parents) keep active at home.

“Physical activities are imperative now as the children have been indoors for too long. It’s time to strengthen their muscles,” said the francishe’s owner, Manuela Jardim.

She encouraged the community to join their free Zoom lessons. The club caters to players from 18 months to eight years old, and so lessons vary in their difficulty level. “For our younger players, aged 18 months to four years, we have videos shared daily by our head office in the United Kingdom. These are training sessions of about 30 to 40 minutes long.”

Parents have taken to these videos wholeheartedly and have even shared videos of their children taking on obstacle courses at home.Jardim said this was uplifting for the coaches who loved seeing the youngsters in the videos.

For older players, coach Ryan Ndlovu has been busy creating soccer training sessions which the children can participate in.”These sessions are training the players with very important football techniques so the children don’t regress during these difficult times,” Jardim added.

When the lockdown is over and training is resumed, Little Kickers will implement safety measures such as ensuring classses are small and implement social distancing.Jardim said the club had two core beliefs: play and not push, and that soccer can be educational.

This means coaches aim to teach soccer in a fun, pressure-free environment and when correctly taught, the sport can stimulate imagination and aid early development skills, such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as a team.
