Midrand Cricket Club puts in hard work

MIDRAND – After not making the premier league, Midrand Cricket Club look towards a positive future.

Midrand Cricket Club (MCC) promo team is positive about their future even though they did not make it to the premier league.

Captain of the promo side Molope Molope said that their third last game of the season against Voslorus Cricket Club yielded a win stemming from the oppositions poor fielding. The team then went on to lose against Etwatwa. There were also two dislocated players with shoulders within the team on 8 March.

The team’s final game on 15 March was washed out leading to the teams sharing the points, which left MCC ending their season in second place. The team was unable to promote to the premier following a good run of games.

Molope said, “We are very disappointed, considering that we fell one game shy of winning it. We unfortunately didn’t achieve what we set out to do but we are positive that we will go all the way next season.

“Energy is still positive after the disappointment wore off, we get to play the game we enjoy, that we will always be grateful for.”

The club will be hosting a 6s tournament on 18 and 19 April to give their players some fun games to play. He added that they will take a few months off and look to preseason training where they will also try and gain a few young players for the next season, which will hopefully end with a dominant performance and league victory.

Molope looked back at a great season from the promo side, “I think it started off rocky but once we started winning in our second game we just dominated our opponents. It’s always tough towards the end of the season with players not being available. But overall very solid season and performance in my view.

“The club has a lot of runway for growth going forward, with the right leadership and structure I think MCC will make a difference in the community and win more titles.”
