Blue Hills College wins Midrand cluster athletics competition for the third year in a row

MIDRAND – Blue Hills College keep the Midrand Cluster Athletics Competitions trophy for the fourth time.

Midrand High School hosted 12 schools from around Midrand for the Midrand cluster athletics competition on 7 February.

While many schools came ready to take the 2020 athletics cup home, Blue Hills College managed to keep it in their trophy cabinet for the third year in a row.

Blue Hills College principal Bekithemba Ndlovu said, “It was not clear as to who would take the trophy among Blue Hills College, Midrand High School and Noordwyk Secondary School. However, by midday it had become obvious, our school was in the lead.

“The schools competed in 3 500m, 800m, 400m, 200m and 100m track events. They also competed in high jump, long jump, shot-put, discus and on Wednesday, 100m relays.”

Ndlovu commended his side for performing well on all events, as they continued to bag medal after medal. “Our team captain, Oliphah Sibanda led by example as she collected two gold and two silver medals.

“In relay, we won five of the six competitions as most of our learners would create huge gaps showing hard work by educators and themselves at preparations.”

The rank for scores for the top three schools was as follows:

• First: Blue Hills College

• Second: Midrand High School

• Third: Noordwyk Secondary School.

Blue Hills College collected 18 gold medals, 15 silver medals, 17 bronze medals and 27 learners will be proceeding to the District Athletics Competitions which will take place on 21 February at a venue that still needs to be confirmed.
