BLUE HILLS – A fun competitive day at the Inter-house athletics on 31 January.

The four houses of Blue Hills College (Acacia, Jacaranda, Mahogany and Oak) battled it out at their schools’ inter-house athletics event on 31 January at the school.

According to the principal, Bekithemba Ndlovu, the houses were competing in the high jump, long jump, discus, shot-put and javelin in the field events.

“On the tracks, they did 3 500m runs, 800m, 400m, 200m, and 100m with the last challenge being the 4x100m relays.”

“So far, Blue Hills College are the holders of the Midrand cluster athletics trophy.

The reason for these competitions are simply to help build a school athletics team that will battle it out with about 10 other Midrand schools at Midrand High School on 7 February and maintain the standard.”

Ndlovu said his school has won the trophy for three years and they hope to retain the trophy. “The atmosphere was quite good in the competition as learners and educators competed peacefully. There were a few minor injuries, which were attended to, as there were two ambulances guarding the occasion.

“At the end, results were as follows, Jacaranda 326 points, Acacia came second with 310, Mahogany had 299 points while Oak house came out last this year. Generally, all houses put up a spirited fight and they all contributed athletes to the school’s team.”
