Janine Evans aims for SA Adult Eventing Championships

KNOPJESLAAGTE – Local eventing legend aims for a ninth podium finish at the SA Adult Eventing Championships.

Local eventing legend and former SA champion, Janine Evans looks good to turn up another fine performance at the upcoming South African Adult Eventing Championships.

The championships will be held at Inanda Country Base in Knopjeslaagte on 23 and 24 November.

Evans, a Timsrand resident, has placed in eight of the nine times she has competed in the championships, and she won overall back in 2004.

She is in good form currently, taking the third spot at a recent 3* show in KwaZulu-Natal and fifth at a 2* show at Plettenberg Bay.

Evans will be competing against some of the country’s best in the championship 3* class at the champs, which feature 1.15m jumps in cross country and 1.20m jumps in show jumping.

“They are of the same standard and heights as other 3* competitions so I have prepared for this,” Evans said.

“I would like to do well and if I place that would be great.”

Evans has this modest approach because last year she competed a grade lower with a new horse, Wow’s RJ, now a 13-year-old thoroughbred.

“He is a pretty consistent horse. It has taken some time to build him into a good eventing horse. He is a 17.2-hand chestnut, so a large horse.”

Wow’s RJ has show he can make the taller jumps and will likely hold his own against the best come November.
