MIDRAND – Summerhill netball teams uses home ground advantage in beating Copperleaf.

Summerhill School in Carlswald Midrand faced off against Copperleaf College beating the Centurion team in both U12 and U13 (open) netball games on 13 June in Midrand.

The games started off with the U12 teams as both sides had forced a win for the day. As the match progressed, Summerhill’s U12 netball players started showing more dominance right down to the final whistle blow. The Midranders kept the ball in their hands only granting the Centurion team a chance to get away with two goals while they scored five.

In the second match by the U13 (open), Copperleaf scored the first goal. Thinking they would turn the tables around and square up for their school, Summerhill came back with a wonderful goal from their goal scorer Amile Mthembi. Amile, Tsitsi Maponya and Persia Ncaba made sure they kept the momentum of their side’s game up with the support of their team making sure any chance they got next to the opposition’s pole was leveraged.

The Midrand girls took action as they saw the suffering defence from their opponents’ side. But as they lost sight, Copperleaf was able to take in three goals and at the end of the day, Summerhill stayed the course getting 12 goals while Copperleaf scored three.

After the game, Summerhill netball coach Tshidi Mbatha said that the match was very good, the girls were active as the game was a challenge.

“We got a good score so I am very happy with how the girls played, even though there were faults here and there, I am satisfied as 90 per cent of the match they did well,” Mbatha added.
