Little Kickers shake things up

MIDRAND – Youngsters and their dads play at a soccer festival at Beaulieu Preparatory School.

Little Kickers Midrand hosted another fun soccer festival and this time it was not just the youngsters who had a little kick of the soccer ball.

Beaulieu Preparatory School hosted a crowd of excited children from Grade 1 to 3, who came from Little Kickers Midrand venues across the area.

Accompanying them were proud moms and dads. The dads were also dressed to play as the festival was for Father’s Day and there was a match lined up for them.

All the fathers were split into two 7-a-side teams, with substitutes, for a game.

The match started a bit slow but when the fathers got into their stride, the goals started to flow and the match became close.

It finished 2–1, and Lloyd Chipanga was awarded a bottle of wine as the player of the match. “I do play soccer and the dads game was more competitive than some that I play in,” he said. “It was especially exciting to link up with other parents and I got a few phone numbers from them.”

After the match, the dads got to sit down, rest and watch their children play in games against each other.

“I want children to enjoy themselves and have fun,” said the company’s owner, Manuela Jardim.

“Little Kickers’ motto is ‘play not push’ so we don’t like to push them to a level where they start hating soccer. We prefer to encourage them to love the sport and love exercising.”

She added that all the children received participation medals afterwards.

“They must understand that in soccer there is competition, so at this level up to Grade 3, we try to teach them the positive enforcement that competition is a good thing not a bad thing, and it’s okay to make mistakes.”
