Summerhill coach selected for the Gauteng Golden Fireballs Netball team

MIDRAND – Summerhill College sports coach and celebrated netballer has been selected to represent the Gauteng Golden Fireballs.

 

Sports coach at Summerhill College Keneiloe Kgasi has been selected for the Gauteng Golden Fireballs Netball team.

Kgasi has had a celebrated sporting with a number of achievements including representing KwaZulu-Natal in Netball from 1999 to 2001 including a captaincy from 2000 to 2001. She also represented South Africa at the Netball World Cup in New Zealand in 2015.

She is also accomplished coach having led a number of school Netball teams to championships including St Stithians Prep and College, Kingsmead College, King David School and Montrose Primary among others.

Kgasi was chosen following a gruelling trial process. She said, “We had two rounds of trials in our five districts where they chose 30 girls per district, which then moved to two rounds of the trail for the Gauteng Region where 15 were chosen.”

The final round of trials narrowed down the 15 players chosen for Gauteng. Kgasi said that the players were given the opportunity to choose their captains and she was voted in as vice-captain of the team.

She added, “This has been a journey filled with countless profound lessons, some painful some pleasant.”

“Being able to have the platform to not only do what I love and have a passion for but to be able to share it with my fellow and upcoming netball enthusiasts, to know that each time I get on that court I inspire a little girl or boy to follow their dreams.”

Kgasi added that being able to lay the foundation for the future of netball is a true privilege. She played her first group of games in the Telkom Netball League on 10 May at the University of Pretoria and will be playing throughout the month of May.
