It’s smooth sailing for Northerns Football Club

WATERFALL – Northerns enjoys a smooth start to new soccer season.

Two weeks into the new season and everything is running smoothly for Northerns Football Club.

The club moved to Reddam House Waterfall in April and training has gone well at the new venue, said club owner Theodora Crozét.

“We grew from 120 to 190 players last season and we now have 13 teams from U7 to U15 level,” she said.

“In the two weeks of the start of the season we have had some wins, some draws and some losses and it is hard to say whether any of our teams lead their leagues yet because the logs have not been updated.”

Crozét added that there had been no real challenges yet in the season. The club’s head coach, Nevada Manna agreed that everything had been smooth sailing so far.

“I am happy with all the performances from all the teams,” he said. “The main aim we have is to see player improvement.

The players’ development is more important than winning leagues, for us.”

Last year, Northerns enjoyed much success in the North Rand District League.

The U8 team reached their cup final while the U11s and U13s finished second in their league divisions.

Northerns was initially based at Beaulieu College in Kyalami. Then it moved to Curro Waterfall on a temporary basis before the club moved to Reddam House Waterfall permanently.

Crozét said home matches were played at Reddam House Waterfall every weekend and invited any interested community members to come watch the games.
