Midrand Cricket Club hosts multi-club tournament to raise funds

MIDRAND – As the cricket season comes to an end, Midrand Cricket Club hosted a sixes-tournament to raise funds.

The Midrand Cricket Club hosted a number of neighbouring clubs for a sixes-tournament on 30 and 31 March to raise funds for the club.

The tournament was held as the cricket season comes to a close.

The chairperson of the club Tshoko Moloko said, “Annually the club holds a fundraiser to raise some capital to assist in the running of the club.

Moloko added, “We run on subscriptions from our members but to assist us further we host this annual fundraiser.”

There were eights teams which competed including two schools, Queens High School and Christ Church College.

The teams were divided into two groups and went head-to-head on the first day with the top two teams in each group going through to compete in the Cup final group and the bottom two group teams competing in the Plate final.

The Cup final saw Queens High School and United Stars Cricket Club take on each other with United coming out on top.

In the Plate final, Midrand Cricket Club took on Benoni-based Slonge Cricket Club with Slonge winning the title.

Moloko said their treasurer was still calculating the amount raised but about R5 000 was made from the day.

He added that the money would give the club an opportunity to assist youth cricket in the neighbouring areas during the 2019/2020 season.
