Midrand Cricket Club expresses pride in team’s progress

MIDRAND – The Midrand Cricket Club is excited by their development side's progress.

The Midrand Cricket Club has expressed pride in the progress of their newly formed development team this year.

The team is made up of juniors from the township of Kaalfontein and are participating in the Eastern Union’s U12 league.

The club chairperson Tshoko Moloko said, “The juniors, who had never played cricket prior to this, took to the sport only like a child can. The kids’ energy as they entered unknown territory told us that kids just want to play, they do not discriminate against any sport but instead will gladly learn if only given the opportunity.”

Though they have yet to win a game their game has grown exponentially. Moloko added, “In their recent matches, however, the group has started to show signs that had opposition coaches realising that Midrand will not be an easy win for too long.

“The side has put in solid performances against Avion Cricket Club where they scored their highest score of 96 in 25 overs and then following that up with a close

30-run defeat to Benoni Cricket Club.”

The team’s coach William Mokgetloane said he was excited at how quickly the side had progressed.

“It is incredible to think that our group is in their first year of cricket,” he said.

“With constant coaching, we believe the future of the club looks very strong.”
