Tshuma Stingers are ready for another great rugby season

MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers aim to win the Senior Grand Challenge for a third year in a row.

Only bigger and better things are on the minds of the leaders at Tshuma Stingers.

The rugby club has kicked off pre-season practices and has already set the goal of lifting the Golden Lions Rugby Union Senior Grand Challenge trophy for the third year in a row.

“It is not only the victories that tell a good story but the dominant, take no prisoners approach in which they were achieved,” said the club’s CEO and founder, Ndumiso Tshuma.

He, along with team manager Vusi Nkosi, believe the new season provides an opportunity to refocus, make new plans, renew their dreams and esteem for the game.

“[We want] to see the club grow from strength to strength in management, women’s rugby, junior rugby and financials in the 2019 rugby season,” added Tshuma. He added that this would require an emphasis on development, which was already seen when the U19 team reached the semi-finals of their cup.

Much of the work done in training currently is preparing players for a 7s tournament on 9 March, hosted by Johannesburg Police (Bobbies) Rugby Club. Then focus will turn to the Lions Annual 7s tournament.

“As much as these games are considered friendlies, Stingers’ performance history attests to the fact that Tshuma Stingers do not believe in friendly matches.”

Senior player, Vincente de Faria said, “As long as we wear the club jersey we will play every game as if it’s the final. We are prepared to take up any challenge.”

Tshuma invited anyone with an interest in rugby to join the Midrand club. He especially urged women so that the club could form a women’s team, as well as coaches and administrative staff or managers.

Tshuma thanked Fury Mazda Midrand and the Gauteng Department of Sports for their sponsorships and also called on anyone else with a love for rugby to get behind the team with financial support.
