Crowthorne tots show off their gymnastic skills

CROWTHORNE – Youngsters have a blast on the trampoline, vaulting equipment and floor.

TotsGames Gymnastics have been hard at work, aiming to do better and better at their monthly gymnastics and obstacle course competitions.

Every week, children can be found at Poplar Academy, Crowthorne, doing fancy jumps, cartwheels and handstands on top of the vaulting equipment, or lifting each other up with impressive strength exercises.

Owner of the club, Nelson Midzi said three and four years olds overcome small obstacles on a basic obstacle course, while children aged five to 12 compete in a more advanced gymnastics programme. This involves gymnastics movements on vault, trampoline and floor.

The TotsGames Challenge is each month, where Midzi invites children from schools in the area to have some fun and show off their moves. Everyone receives a medal for participation, and the winning school earns a trophy.

A different age group participates each time and 29 September will see the youngest children (aged three to four) compete on the obstacle course from 10am. They will compete in teams of five.

Midzi invited any parents interested in helping their children to be more active, to come and watch.

“Gymnastics is lots of fun and does away with laziness and obesity,” he said.

“It is a physical activity that stretches and strengthens youngsters and makes them agile. This helps them with any other sports as well.”

There is also a good social interaction between children. Midzi said the club accommodates everyone and helpsed children improve and reach levels of skill higher than when they first started.
