Tshuma Stingers defend Midrand

MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers victorious against Alexandra Wolves, winning 37–7.

The second round of games was the ultimate test in the Senior Grand Challenge for Tshuma Stingers when they faced Alexandra Wolves.

Tshuma Stingers passed with flying colours by emerging victorious from their latest encounter against their neighbours, winning 37–7 at Midrand High School.

With some Stingers players not available because of school holidays, it was time for the young guns to prove themselves.

Wolves drew first blood with a converted try to put them 7–0 ahead.

Stingers quickly replied with great forward play resulting in winger Onalerona Manyisa crossing the whitewash for an unconverted try. The experienced Divine Kawadza went over for Stingers’ second with captain Brian Mkiva converting for a 12–7 lead at half-time.

The second half was full of positive energy from the Midrand team which resulted in Wolves being denied possession for the majority of the half. Mkiva kicked a penalty before the home team’s Takunda Gwena scored his first try of the season. Flanker Vincente de Faria’s hard work eventually paid off when he scored Stingers’ bonus point try 10 minutes before full-time.

But Stingers were not finished yet. Front rower Keith Jange received a short pass from an attacking lineout 10m out and drove at the Wolves’ try-line before Mxolisi Hlophe took possession and went over for another five-pointer.

Stingers hammered in the final nail through a Collette Chawatama try in the 79th minute.
