Simplex Solutions will be hosting its Wiser-Ball league at the Ivory Park stadium from 21 April until 21 October.

Wiser-Ball is an international sport where strategy and exercise are combined. In this game, teams compete against each other regardless of gender, age and race. Simplex Solutions first introduced the sport to Ivory Park and Tembisa in September last year.

Wiser-Ball is a game where a player has a ball with a number on it. Each player gets a chance to hit the opponent’s ball and ‘lock’ it. Once it is locked, the owner of the ball won’t be able to play until they are saved by a team member who will hit the same ball that locked it, so to unlock it and continue to play.

“Playing Wiser-Ball not only builds physical strength but also develops wisdom and brainpower,” said chairperson of South African Wiser-Ball, Thomas Wong.

“It is an international sport for everyone. A game played by seven members per team making up a total of fourteen people per game.”

Wong also invited anyone who would like to play the sport to go to Ivory Park stadium on the day of the beginning of the tournament at 10am in the morning. “We also invite potential sponsors to assist in growing and developing Wiser-Ball for our communities,” added Wong.

Last year’s tournament took place at the Ivory Park stadium in September with eight teams competing. Among the eight teams was the Tswelelene Development Break A Sweat Team, a team that consisted of elderly members.

One member, Sarah March (65) said she loved the sport. “l love it because after playing I don’t feel tired. Most of all, I love showing the young ones that being old doesn’t mean that you cannot play any sport,” she said.

Wong added that Wiser-Ball also prepared young people to be able to face different challenges. “They [youngsters] need to understand that we sometimes need help from others when facing difficulties. When playing Wiser-Ball if your ball gets locked by the other team, only your teammates can rescue you. This symbolises the spirit of ubuntu.”
