Tshuma Stingers gear up for new season

MIDRAND – Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club received sporting gear from the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation.

Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club received various sporting gear from the Gauteng Department of Sports and Recreation on 8 December at Midrand High School.

Speaking at the handover, the founder and CEO of Stingers Ndumiso Tshuma thanked the Midrand Reporter for covering their games and the department for its continued sponsorship.

“The team has improved a lot on and off the field ever since its inception and has grown throughout the different leagues,” he said. “The club is facing various challenges including funding, transport and sports facilities.”

Tshuma called on the community to support the team with sponsorships and financial donations because many of the players came from disadvantaged communities. These players could not afford to travel to practices and therefore had to walk long distances.

Speaking to the players, the club’s manager Barry Nkosi warned them about the abuse of alcohol during the festive season.

“Alcohol easily becomes addictive to athletes because it’s a form of a pain reliever, but it can hinder a player’s fitness levels when the season starts off next year,” Nkosi said.

He also encouraged experienced and unskilled rugby players to join the club.
