Midrand Knights Cricket Club grows at new stadium

MIDRAND – Local cricket team secures victory in its third game at a new home.

The Midrand Knights Cricket Club has made itself comfortable at its new home, Marlboro Stadium, with its third match at the venue yielding a bonus-point victory.

The third team’s 78-run win against Wanderers Cricket Club in a Gauteng Cricket Board Saturday Three League (SA3) game on 21 October, leaves little doubt that the new venue known among club members as ‘The G’ is one for keeps.

“We moved there at the start of the year and re-did the pitch and field,” said club chairperson, Jeremy Meiring.

“In our six years of cricket we have won five titles. Our teams are improving every year, and things keep looking up.”

Midrand Knights won the toss on the day, and batted first in the 35-over match.

They posted a competitive 206/8, which proved far too much for Wanderers, which could only score 128 all out.

Meiring said Midrand Knights has two senior teams and five junior teams (including two girls teams).

He encouraged community members to join the club for some fun, competitive cricket.

“At the moment we are trying to get more players from disadvantaged backgrounds, but we won’t turn anyone away.”
