Stay safe while training for your next big marathon or cycling event

JOHANNESBURG – ADT urges residents to take safety precautions while training for marathons, cycling events and fitness purposes.

With upcoming marathon running events, ADT encourages Johannesburg residents to take the necessary safety precautions when training on public roads.

“Our roads are very busy this time of year with cyclists and runners making use of the favourable weather conditions to get into shape. My wish is that every single person is able to enjoy their workout in safety,” said Theunis Kotze, general manager ADT Inland Region.

According to Kotze, it is important to incorporate safety into your training routine and notify loved ones or friends of the time you will be training, the route you will be taking and what time you should be expected back home. This ensures that they can raise the alarm if they suspect something has gone wrong.

“Visibility is another very important aspect. Wearing reflective clothing ensures you are visible to other road users,” he said. Kotze also recommends that training with a group of people is much safer than doing it alone.

Kotze offers some tips for training:

“Cycling groups such as the Pedal Power Association have put together very important safe cycling tips. Take a look at their website for advice,” concluded Kotze.
