Midrand Cluster Athletics

MIDRAND – Midrand schools battled it out at the Cluster Athletics meeting.

Schools in Midrand have been busy over the past couple of weeks as they prepared for their athletics events, both inter-house and inter-schools.

Seven high schools in Midrand, Midrand High School, Blue Hills College, Noordwyk Secondary, Allanridge Secondary, Glen Austin High School, Sagewood College and Hope Fountain Combined School came together on 10 February to battle it out for the title of the best athletics school in Midrand.

The inter-schools event was hosted by Midrand High School lead by cluster leader Tembu Tete of Sagewood College.

Midrand High School said the school was proud to host an event such as the Midrand Cluster Athletics Day.

Tete said, “It is a privilege to work with the athletes that form the Midrand Cluster. The main aim of the cluster is to build strong individuals not just in sport but in life too and we are glad to say that we have been doing just that over the many years of hosting this event.”

He said in any sport, discipline was a number one priority and it was very evident that all schools came with the discipline that was needed to win medals and compete with the best of the best.

Alec Abbott, principal of Glen Austin High School said he had goosebumps watching the athletes participate in the many races and events and winning medals for the school.

The athletes who were placed first and second in their various events will start training for the District 9 athletics event that will take place later this year in Johannesburg.
