Midrand Cricket Club start year with a victory

MIDRAND – Midrand Cricket Club beat Actonville Spurs Cricket Club in their first match of the year.

Midrand Cricket Club travelled to Lords Cricket Grounds in Actonville to play their rescheduled promotion match against Actonville Spurs Cricket Club.

Midrand fielded first and started well, taking early wickets and not allowing the Actonville batsmen to settle. The Actonville batsmen were further frustrated by the high quality of fielding and wickets fell regularly throughout the innings, despite a determined knock of 91 from the host’s Ahamed Mohamed.

All Midrand’s bowlers picked up wickets with the leading bowler being youngster Sahil Bramdhaw, whose very economical bowling of 2/17 off 7 overs restricted and frustrated the Actonville batsmen.

After Midrand lost opener Ahmed Manack early on, Bramdhaw shone brightly with the bat too, and had a fantastic partnership with club stalwart Graeme Penny which saw the pair put on just short of 100 runs before Penny was dismissed. However, if Actonville was hoping this would trigger a collapse, it did not and Bramdhaw ended on 69 not out, steering the team to victory.
