Midrand Knights record another win

MIDRAND – Midrand Knights Cricket Club recorded yet another win over the weekend.

Midrand Knights Cricket Club’s second team took on Zulfikaars Cricket Club in Midrand in an SA5 fixture.

The club’s chairperson, Jeremy Meiring said, “We won the toss and elected to bowl. Zulfikaars were pinned back in the very first over, thanks to an excellent opening over by Bala Sivarathri. He took two wickets in that over, putting early pressure on the visitors, having them at 0/2.

“He bowled with great pace and excellent control, keeping the Zulfikaars batsmen honest. Bala was well supported by opening partner, Naresh Borra, who took 2/25 (5 overs). Their opening spell of 10 overs yielded 43 runs for the loss of six wickets. Zulfikaars never recovered, and were bowled out for 95 runs in 22 overs, with captain Naveen Pothineni 3/18 (6),” said Meiring.

In pursuit of a likely bonus-point win, the Knights’ batters chased the modest total in a purposeful and aggressive manner. That led to the team losing early wickets. Rajaram Bingi 31 (19 balls), again showed his class, with a neat innings. He was well supported by vice-captain Suresh Kaja, who contributed 25 off just 15 balls.

“We crossed the line in the 14th over with the loss of four wickets. We won two matches in a row, with a bonus point. “Man of the Match was awarded to Bala Sivarathri.”
