According to Mike Tshipu, chairperson of the Mayibuye Sport Forum, the aim of the event was to unite society through the celebration of the diverse cultures; encourage the young ones to showcase their many talents and speak against drug use and teenage pregnancy.

There were various cultural group dancers entertaining the crowds with traditional dances representing South Africa’s heritage, and the Mayibuye Revolution Gospel Choir enthralled the audience.

The chairperson said he was pleased with the turnout and support from the community, which came out in their numbers to enjoy the festivities. About 2 700 people attended the forum’s very first Heritage Day event.

Tshipu said he would like to encourage the youth and adults to participate in the various sports, arts and culture events, which the forum organises.

“We invited all cultures to socialise with us in order to promote a better life in the community,” Tshipu concluded.
