A whopping R4-million payout for Senzo Meyiwa

JOBURG – Children of ace goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa will all share in the R2 million set aside for them from a whopping R4 million insurance pay-out.

Ace goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa’s children will receive R2 million from a total payout of R4 million released by the Premier Soccer League from an insurance investment for the late player.

The R2 million will be invested in a trust for Senzo’s three children that are known so far, although it is suspected that his former girlfriend, actor and singing sensation, Kelly Khumalo, also has a child fathered by Senzo.

The other R2 million will be paid to his former club, Orlando Pirates, though club chairperson Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza said the club would not be looking to recoup any expenses incurred for Senzo’s funeral.

“Those expenses will go down as our own contribution to the farewell of a colleague, a son and a brother to us as a club,” Khoza said when he announced the release of the insurance payment to the Meyiwa family which was represented by Senzo’s father Samuel Meyiwa, and Senzo’s wife Mandisa Meyiwa.

As Mandisa and Senzo were married in a traditional wedding ceremony that was never registered with the courts, curator of Senzo’s estate, Raymond Hack disclosed that Mandisa will not be getting anything from the R2 million as it would be invested in a trust for the children until they are 18.

Hack said he was under the impression that Senzo had other children outside the three mentioned, one allegedly with Khumalo, and appealed to anyone who might have a child fathered by Senzo and has a legitimate claim to the estate to come forward.

He said the Master of the Court would then determine whether paternity tests need to be done to prove the claim. Senzo’s father, Samuel, said the payout was a great relief to the family as “… we have been battling this for a very long time.”
