Midrand Cricket Club is on the ball

MIDRAND - Midrand Cricket Club's 2016 season is in full swing.

The club’s spokesperson, Tshoko Moloko, said the club’s Sunday Six side won the 50-over format in their division.

Moloko said, “The side is now pursuing victory in the time format of the league to gain automatic promotion.

“Following a close four-run defeat to Roshnee Cricket Club last week, the Sunday Six side took on a Jubelium side on an undefeated streak. The pressure was on the Midrand club if they were to get their challenge for the title back on track.”

In the match, Jubelium won the toss and opted to bowl with Midrand posting an imposing 260 all out in 60 overs. Due to a rain delay, Jubelium had only 45 overs to chase the target. The visitors showed intent early on and were 135/2 in 25 overs. Midrand needed to stem the run rate and seasoned campaigner Graeme Penny managed that by breaking a hundred-run partnership with the first ball of his second spell.

Jubelium then lost more wickets and were 150/6 when a thunderstorm stopped play and the match was abandoned.

Meanwhile, the Midrand club is on a drive to attract more juniors. With the club’s U13 and U15 sides in regular action, the club is calling on all aspiring cricketers to join. Having recently appointed a juniors coach, the club is hoping to strengthen their youth structures.
