Biking for change

MIDRAND - The Raskal Motorcylcle Club enjoys powerful motorbikes as well as making a powerful change.

For their 5-year anniversary on 13 February, the club hosted a charity fundraiser for Yenzani Children’s Home at Plantation Café, a sports bar on New Road, Midrand.

“Normally we would ask for an entrance fee, however, this year we decided that people should donate what they could by buying one or two of our [club] badges for R50 each,” said the club’s public relations officer, Maredi Takalo.

Takalo and a few other members of the club said people should have fun while doing charity work.

“Yenzani’s cause for children is the reason behind our donation. Children are our future. If they are treated with love and respect now, they will grow up to be loving and respectful adults,” he said.

Takalo said he was grateful to the Midrand community, owners of the venue and Jack Daniels for their support.

“When you have the muscle and power, it is always great to try and change the world for the better.”

The proceeds from the charity drive will go towards the purchase of items from the children’s home’s wish list such as food and clothing.

Takalo said residents were also welcome to join them in donating food and other items which would be handed over to the home in the future.
