Fans urged to get behind Pink ODI

JOBURG - Cricket fans in South Africa and around the world are urged to get behind the 4th Momentum One Day International (ODI) between the Castle Lager Proteas and England at the Bidvest Wanderers on 12 February.

Cricket fans in South Africa and around the world are urged to get behind the 4th Momentum One Day International (ODI) between the Castle Lager Proteas and England at the Bidvest Wanderers on 12 February.

The traditional Pink ODI aims to raise R1 million from initiatives at the match to support the PinkDrive Breast Cancer awareness campaign.

The Proteas will, once again, wear pink in this match to show their support and create further awareness of breast cancer.

Cricket South Africa CEO Haroon Lorgat said they were pleased with the support they received in the past years. “With the risk of breast cancer capable of impacting any South African family, we are pleased to support the PinkDrive campaign and raise awareness,” said Lorgat.

The last three Pink ODIs saw a total of R1 475 0 00 raised, which contributed to Pink Drive purchasing new mobile mammography and gynaecology trucks.

Noelene Kotschan, CEO and Founder of PinkDrive, expressed her excitement for this year’s match at the Wanderers. “This annual, dedicated match is the major highlight in the PinkDrive sporting calendar, it is apparent that the pink kit is a good omen for the Proteas,” she said.

Kotschan also thanked organisations such as Momentum, Bidvest, SAB, Cricket South Africa and the Gauteng Cricket Board who drive this event and help ensure that funds and awareness are raised for breast cancer education.

As in previous years, support for the Proteas will be backed up with sizable donations for every run, 4 and 6. Also, if a player hits the giant red inflatable “M”, Momentum will donate an additional R100 000 to PinkDrive.
