Khumalo leaves SuperSport to become a Clever Boy

JOBURG - Former English Premier League star, Bongani Khumalo has parted ways with SuperSport United to become a Clever Boy.

Khumalo (28) had rejoined Matsatsantsa in July last year and played in 10 games in the first half of the season, but has since left the Tshwane side to join coach Gavin Hunt’s title-hunting Bidvest Wits side.

Wits CEO Jose Ferreira welcomed Khumalo to the stable and described him as a ‘quality player’ who he hoped would fit in well into the Wits family and team. “Bongani is a quality player with whom both coach Gavin Hunt and I have worked with before and won league titles at SuperSport United.

“He will undoubtedly bring immense value and experience to our squad and I have no doubt that his stay with us will be a huge success,” said Ferreira.

SuperSport had the option to release the player in the January 2016 transfer window and after discussions between the parties following Khumalo’s lack of game time recently, it was mutually agreed to part ways.

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews said, “Bongani is a consummate professional, he was unhappy at not getting game time in recent matches. We, as a club, can also not afford to have a big player like him sitting on the bench, and so we agreed to let him go and explore his options, and we wish him all the best.”

The Swazi-born Khumalo played for AmaTuks before joining SuperSport and subsequently moved to the English Premier League where he played for the likes of Tottenham, Preston, Reading, Doncaster and Colchester. He also had a stint at Greek side Paok S’nika.
