MKCC wins the weekend

MIDRAND - Midrand Knights Cricket Club has celebrated great results recently when the club's two teams recorded impressive victories away from home.

The first team took on Randfontein Cricket Club in a SA5 fixture and won by five wickets. Knights lost the toss and were asked to bowl first on a very small field where a high score would be inevitable. They restricted the hosts to 205/7 in 35 overs with Shumail Siddiqui returning exceptional figures of 3/27 in seven overs.

In reply, captain Phani Lingam along with Siddiqui scored a 100-run partnership in no time. Siddiqui scored his second half-century in as many matches with 65 off 40 balls. Lingam scored the winning runs in the 23rd over with a well-played 51 not out off 45 balls.

Man of the match was awarded to Siddiqui.

The second team headed into a SA6 clash with Old Maristonians at Sacred Heart College. They also won by five wickets. Knights won the toss and elected to bowl first and restricted the opposition to 176/9 in 35 overs. Naveen Pothineni was the main destroyer taking 4/22 in seven overs.

In reply, Anand Kumar was joined by Siva Rajavarapu in the 20th over with the score on 97/5. The pair put on an unbeaten 83-run partnership which took the Knights over the line in the 33rd over. Kumar scored his first half-century of the season with 51 not out off 90 balls. Rajavarapu was more aggressive with his 36 off 40 balls.

Man of the match was awarded to Pothineni.
